Pokemon GO

I can only imagine what it would have been like to be a game developer when the original Pokemon Red and Green came out (Red and Blue in the West, which is why you may be confused). Here you were, making games and selling them, when all of a sudden Game Freak decides to sell a game twice and for some reason people are all about it. It was a way of getting people to use the Game Boy Link Cable, because they’d have to trade with a friend(or themselves) to, as they say, catch ‘em all. And it’s become a hallowed part of the series to this day, carrying on to this Pokemon GO Kanto Tour Event, where you’ll have a choice between Red and Green when you buy your ticket.

The rationale for having the two versions here is basically the same as it was way back when. There are certain creatures that are exclusive to one of the two versions, and if you want to complete the associated collection challenges, you’ll need to trade with a friend. The exclusive Pokemon are attracted to incense, and each version also has a boosted shiny rate for certain Pokemon.

Here are the exclusive creatures for each version

  • Exclusive Pokemon: Ekans, Oddish, Mankey, Growlithe, Scyther, and Electabuzz .
  • Boosted Shiny Rate: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pidgey, Ekans, Pikachu, Nidoran , Oddish, Diglett, Mankey, Growlithe, Ponyta, Shellder, Drowzee, Krabby, Hitmonlee, Lickitung, Scyther, Electabuzz, Eevee, Kabuto, and Dratini.

  • Exclusive Pokemon: Sandshrew, Vulpix, Meowth, Bellsprout, Magmar, and Pinsir.
  • Boosted Shiny Rate: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pidgey, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran , Vulpix, Meowth, Psyduck, Bellsprout, Geodude, Exeggcute, Hitmonchan, Koffing, Tangela, Horsea, Magmar, Pinsir, Eevee, Omanyte, and Dratini.

That’s the difference right there. So the first thing you can do is take a look at that list and choose which one you want to buy based on which of those Pokemon you like more. But even more than that, you should try to reach out to a friend, or investigate social media postings, to see what other people are doing. Try to make sure you’ve got a line in on someone to trade with that will complete your set, and note that the trading distance will be increased to 40km for a little more flexibility. If you’re in a city, that should probably cover most of any given city. If you’re not, Pokemon GO has always been a bit of a struggle for you.
