Pokémon Go won’t have a presence at this year’s Game Awards, but trainers can participate in a brand new event to celebrate the annual award show.

The Game Awards event in Pokémon Go begins this Thursday and will allow trainers to duke it out with near-endless hordes of Team Go Rocket Grunts and boost their Shadow Pokémon to new levels.

FRUSTRATION

The biggest feature of the Pokémon Go Game Awards event has to do with Shadow Pokémon and the move Frustration.

Frustration is an attack that can only be learned by Shadow Pokémon. This Charged Attack could not be swapped with another move using Charged TMs until this new event. During the event, trainers will be able to help Shadow Pokémon forget Frustration and learn something new.

For those unaware, Frustration is a Normal-type attack with a base power of 10. This isn’t the best attack for PVP battles, but, thanks to this event, trainers can swap out this move for a more powerful one.

Shadow Pokémon in PVP battles have an attack boost, but their defense is lower than normal Pokémon, meaning they take more damage. So, if you have a perfect IV Shadow Pokémon, you can use this event to make them a bit more viable in battles.

IN-GAME BONUSES

As for in-game bonuses, Incense will be more effective at attracting Pokémon, meaning you’ll see more spawns, more frequently. Trainers will also earn more Stardust for catching Pokémon during the event.

Stardust is important to powering up Pokémon to increase their Combat Power (CP).

Team Go Rocket Grunts will also be appearing more frequently at PokéStops and in Rocket Balloons during the event. The type of Team Go Rocket Grunt you’ll encounter depends on the dialogue they say when you encounter them.

Here’s each line of dialogue with the type of Pokémon that Team Rocket Grunts use:

  • “Winning is for winners. Don’t bother, I’ve already won. Get ready to be defeated!” – Mixed typings
  • “Go, my super bug Pokémon!” – Bug
  • “Wherever there is light, there is also shadow!” – Dark
  • “Check out my cute Pokémon!” – Fairy
  • “Do you know how hot Pokémon fire breath can get?” – Fire
  • “ROAR!…How’d that sound?” – Dragon
  • “I want to let my bird Pokémon battle you!” – Flying
  • “My Flying-type Pokémon wants to battle with you!” – Flying
  • “Don’t tangle with us!” – Grass
  • “You’ll be defeated into the ground!” – Ground
  • “Normal does not mean weak!” – Normal
  • “Coiled and ready to strike!” – Poison
  • “Are you scared of psychics that use unseen power?” – Psychic
  • “Let’s rock and roll!” – Rock
  • “The waters are treacherous!” – Water
